Who We Are
• American Society of Civil Engineers – Missouri S&T received its official charter from ASCE Nationals in 1924 when the Missouri University of Science and Technology was called Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (MSM). Ever since, ASCE – Missouri S&T has introduced thousands of civil engineering students to professional career development, connected civil students through social and service events, offered scholarships and awards, and partnered with various companies to improve community relations!
• The Missouri S&T Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers provides extremely important value to our members. We meet once every two weeks (alternating Wednesdays with the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI), lasting around an hour with an industry leader, talking about their professional career, representing their company, presenting various civil engineering projects, or providing different tips for being a professional engineer, with provided dinner! Civil engineering students practice working together effectively, and we promote a spirit of congeniality. We accomplish this vision by offering one or two service project opportunities per semester as well as through competitions, industry exposure, leadership, professional development, networking, social events, and scholarships. We also organize the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) review sessions in BCH, with professor guidance and by selling FE review manuals. Be apart of one of the most prominent engineering societies in the world!
ASCE Nationals
The American Society of Civil Engineers represents more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. Founded in 1852, ASCE is the nation’s oldest engineering society. ASCE stands at the forefront of a profession that plans, designs, constructs, and operates society’s economic and social engine – the built environment – while protecting and restoring the natural environment.
• Through the expertise of its active membership, ASCE is a leading provider of technical and professional conferences and continuing education, the world’s largest publisher of civil engineering content, and an authoritative source for codes and standards that protect the public. The society advances civil engineering technical specialties through nine dynamic institutes and leads with its many professional – and public – focused programs.
History
• On November 5th, 1852, a dozen eminent civil engineers gathered at the Croton Aqueduct in New York City in the office of Chief Engineer Alfred W Craven to establish the American Society of Civil Engineers and Architects. In 1868, a few years after architects had formed a professional society of their own, ASCE adopted its current name. For the first 144 years of its existence, ASCE maintained its headquarters in New York City, relocating six times to progressively larger facilities. In 1996, ASCE moved to its current global headquarters in Reston, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.
